Safari 4.0.4 boosts performance, stability

Apple has released Safari 4.0.4, a minor update to the Mac and Windows web browser. The patch makes relatively few changes, but does boost the performance of JavaScript, as well as Full History Searches in the case of a "large number" of items. Stability fixes have been implemented for the search field and Yahoo! Mail.

A variety of security problems have also been patched, mainly in WebKit, Safari's underlying rendering engine. These include holes in resource sharing, FTP directory listings and the handling of HTML5 media. Other eliminated vulnerabilities are said to have been found in ColorSync, the XML library and the assorted "Open in New" menu commands. Filesizes for the update differ according to the target platform and operating system.
